Joe Wright to direct Anne Hathaway in 'The Lifeboat'

Joe Wright, the acclaimed director behind Atonement, 2005's Pride & Prejudice and this fall's Pan, already lined up his next job before he put the final touches on his latest. He signed on to direct Anne Hathaway in the Charlotte Rogan adaptation The Lifeboat.

With this new movie, Wright continues his working relationship with Working Title and Focus Features. Although they don't produce Pan, they were behind the other Wright features mentioned before, as well as Anna Karenina. Deadline reported on the director's involvement, but doesn't note when production hopes to begin or when the studio plans to release this new movie.

Hathaway, as a star and producer, joined the project nearly two years ago. She only produced one film before this, this year's Song One. Also on board in this capacity are Tim Beva, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin for Working Title and Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner for Film 360.

Rogan's 2013 book centers on a young newlywed-turned-widow in 1914 who stands trial for murder, and it will recount how she survived the sinking of the transatlantic ocean liner the Empress through the help of her new husband. William Broyles Jr. (Cast Away) wrote the screenplay and serves as an executive producer.

Pan comes to theaters on October 9, 2015. Although originally set to be released on July 24, the film was pushed back in April reportedly to move itself away from the competitive summer months and to continue touching up visual effects.
