Kanye West says he was 'grossly over-censored' during Billboard Music Awards performance

Kanye West is responding to the strong censorship during his performance at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards.

As we previously reported, West was onstage for just over five minutes, but only 4 minutes and 16 seconds were audible due to censors.

West is now responding via his publicist, saying in a statement that he was "grossly over-censored” and apologized to fans at home who could barely make out what he was rapping.

The statement reads, “Non-profane lyrics such as ‘with my leather black jeans on’ were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented. It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against.”

He also believes he was “clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast.”

He performed “All Day” and “Black Skinhead” to close out the show and his sister-in-laws, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, were booed when introducing him.
