Lilly Pulitzer employees under fire for fat-shaming illustrations discovered in headquarters

Lilly Pulitzer’s vice president of creative communications is doing damage control after images of fat-shaming were published in a behind-the-scenes article designed to show what the company’s offices are like.

Jane Schoenborn apologized for the illustration featured on a refrigerator in the Lilly Pulitzer headquarters, which reads “Just another day of fat, white and hideous. You should probably just kill yourself,” and "Put it down, carb face,” featuring drawings of overweight women.

The illustrations were featured in New York Magazine. Since the piece was published on Tuesday, there has been outrage over the photo.

"While we are an employer that does encourage people to decorate their own space, we are a female-dominated company and these images do not reflect our values,” said Schoenborn. “We apologize for any harm this may have caused.”

The controversy comes after a very successful collaboration with Target, which crashed the retailer’s website and sold out in stores almost instantaneously.
