Many of the women rescued from Boko Haram camps are pregnant

After the rescue of over 200 girls from Boko Haram camps, it has been reported that 214 of the girls are pregnant.

As previously reported, the Nigerian army rescued over 200 girls and 93 women from the Sambisa Forest, which is reportedly the spot used by Boko Haram for their camps and operations. The group gained notoriety when they claimed responsibility in kidnapping 300 girls from their school.

The International Business Times revealed that many of the women rescued appeared to be in different stages of pregnancy and most likely suffer from psychological trauma due to their captivity.

Amnesty International reportedly said the militants are responsible for the kidnapping of over 2,000 women for reasons ranging from sexual slavery to being trained for fighting.

There is still no word on whether any of the freed hostages include the girls who went missing from their government school in Chibok.

The United Nations Population Fund and the Nigerian governments are working together in order to assist the freed hostages and help them reintegrate into the communities where they lived. Vanguard reported that Babatunde Osotimehim with the UNFPA said they were working to restore the dignity of the women affected by the captivity.
