Mark-Paul Gosselaar's 'People Are Talking' gets picked up by NBC

Mark-Paul Gosselaar's absence from television will be short-lived. NBC has put in a series order for People Are Talking, a new sitcom from DJ Nash.

The project, which Gosselaar joined in March, centers on two couples who are very different, but still friends. They constantly compare their lives and over-analyze everyone else. You know, like most sitcom characters.

Tone Bell (Bad Judge) will co-star.

Nash created the series and, despite the lack of success with his other shows, NBC is still working with him. He’s written and produced several short-lived shows, including Growing Up Fisher, Up All Night and Guys With Kids.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, People Are Talking is a Universal Television production. Pam Fryman (How I Met Your Mother) directed the pilot. Will Packer (Ride Along) is also producing.

People Are Talking is also a multi-camera comedy with a laugh track. NBC has strangely been trying to reinvigorate the format with shows like One Big Happy and Undateable.

The new series joins Chicago Med, Heartbreaker, Blindspot, the Coach revival and Eva Longoria’s Telenovela on NBC’s 2015-16 lineup.

As for Gosselaar, he was last seen on TNT’s Franklin & Bash. He scored his breakout role on NBC with Saved by the Bell.
