Paramount shoves Eddie Murphy's 'Beverly Hills Cop 4' from schedule

It will take even longer for Axel Foley to come back than Eddie Murphy hoped. After CBS killed the Beverly Hills Cop pilot about Axel’s son, Paramount has added insult to injury by taking Beverly Hills Cop 4 off the schedule.

Paramount officially greenlit the movie in May 2014 and scheduled it for March 25, 2016. But it was becoming clear that it wasn’t going to happen as cameras never started rolling.

On Wednesday, a source told TheWrap that the movie has officially been delayed indefinitely. It is still in development and Brett Ratner (Tower Heist) is still directing. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing and the most recent writers were Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum.

Another sign that Beverly Hills Cop 4 wasn’t going to hit theaters as planned came earlier this week when Monster Trucks was pushed to March 18, 2016. That’s the weekend before Paramount’s original date for Beverly Hills Cop 4. (Murphy’s movie would have also been up against Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.)

Murphy has been trying for years to revive Beverly Hills Cop in any possible. One idea was a TV series starring Brandon T. Jackson as Axel Foley’s son. CBS eventually passed on that and the pilot never aired.
