Prosecutors in Freddie Gray case seek gag order

Prosecutors are asking that the judge presiding over the Freddie Gray case will place a gag order on defense attorneys, law enforcement officials and potential witnesses.

WWMT noted that the state said that it has not granted any media requests for documents and evidence pertaining to the case, but lawyers for the defendants have. Prosecutors said that the information was handed over before they had a chance to look at it. Furthermore, they said they believe that some of the statements made by the defense attorneys could cause prejudice among the public.

The 25-year-old Gray was arrested last month and suffered an acute spinal cord injury while in police custody. He later went into a coma and died on April 19.

On the day he was laid to rest, despite his family’s pleas for peace, violence broke out in the city of Baltimore.

As previously reported, on May 1, prosecutor Marilyn Mosby announced that the six officers involved in Gray’s arrest had been charged in his death.

UPDATE: On Thursday, the state's attorney announced that all six cops have been indicted by a grand jury in Gray's death.
