Tracy Morgan to speak with 'Today Show' in first interview since car crash

NBC’s Today Show has scored the first television interview with actor/comedian Tracy Morgan since his June 2014 car crash. The interview will also come just days after he reached a settlement with Walmart over the crash.

In June, Morgan and his friends were on the New Jersey Turnpike, on their way home from a performance, when they were struck by a Walmart truck. James McNair, a fellow comedian who was with Morgan, was killed in the crash. Morgan was left seriously injured, as were two others. The driver, Kevin Roper, pleaded not guilty to charges related to the accident.

Morgan did file a lawsuit against Walmart, but the two sides reached a settlement earlier this week. “Walmart did right by me and my family and for my associates and their families,” Morgan said in a statement Wednesday. “I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.”

“The process is never easy,” Morgan’s lawyer, Benedict Morelli, said in an interview with Today this morning. He said that the former 30 Rock star is hoping to move on from the accident and “has a new lease on life.”

Morgan and Morelli will be in the Today studio Monday morning for a sit down with Matt Lauer.

In addition to his work on 30 Rock, Morgan was also on Saturday Night Live.
