White Rock councilor compares pregnant women’s clothing to ‘sausage casing’

A Canadian councilor is feeling the heat for some comments he made during a podcast about pregnant women’s clothing looking like a ‘sausage casing.’

Global News reported that it all started when Global BC’s meteorologist Kristi Gordon read on air some of disturbing hate mail she had received from viewers critiquing the her clothing she has been wearing while pregnant. Following that, White Rock Councilor David Chesney asked while on the Goddard Report podcast what he thought of the attire and hate mail the weather woman received.

“Our mothers, and I’m not advocating that they wear tents, but there is maternity wear,” he said. “I see women, I run into women in the local grocery store and they can’t get on any more skin tight, it looks like sausage casing. Their belly button is actually pushing through the material and I kind of look at that and I go ‘I get it, you’re pregnant, alright?'”

The councilor went on to say that in his opinion, he is not repulsed by expectant mothers wearing tight clothing but doesn’t understand why they choose to dress that way.

On Wednesday, White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin confirmed that Chesney had been removed and censured from his duties for some other foot-in-his-mouth comments. He allegedly made remarks about city lawyers, which they claim to be defamatory.
