Drake Bell apologizes for 'thoughtless insensitive remarks' about Caitlyn Jenner

Former Nickelodeon actor Drake Bell made himself a target for criticism on Monday for his comment on Caitlyn Jenner, who revealed her new identity on the cover of Vanity Fair this week.

Back on Monday, Bell wrote, “Sorry... still calling you Bruce” on Twitter. Bell quickly deleted the message, just after realizing that it was a really bad idea.

Bell put his thoughts together late Thursday and posted a statement, spread over two tweets, to apologize.

“I sincerely apologize for my thoughtless insensitive remarks. I in no way meant to hurt or demean those going through a similar journey,” Bell wrote. “Although my comments were made in innocence, I deeply regret the negative effect they've had on so many.”

Bell was one of the few celebrities to make a negative comment about Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover. Members of the Kardashian and Jenner family voiced their support, as did Sam Smith, Lady Gaga and others.

The Vanity Fair cover was unveiled on Monday. Jenner’s transition to Caitlyn will be chronicled in an E! series I Am Cait!, which starts on July 26.
