Investigative report into Tamir Rice's shooting released

The investigative report into the Cleveland shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice was released and one of the details in the report showed that originally, it was believed that there was an older man with a gun.

CNN reported that the responding officers did not know that the 911 caller thought it was likely that the gun the person was holding was “fake” and that the caller had also said there was a chance the person was a juvenile.

While a judge said on Thursday that there was probable cause for charges to be brought against the officers involved in the shooting, a grand jury will read through the report in order to make a decision on indictment.

Other details provided in the report were that witnesses to the shooting did not hear Officer Timothy Loehmann shouting at Rice, even though Loehmann claimed that he gave “verbal commands” in the car.

The report also said that police didn’t immediately provide aid to Rice and that a nearby FBI agent heard the shots and came to help. Initially, the officers did not think he was a kid until the agent heard Rice’s sister yelling how old he was.

The air pistol Rice had was given after a trade with his friend and the FBI agent spoke to Rice before he passed away.

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office released a report of the investigation, which they did after there were pleas for an independent investigation.
