New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the one-time Republican star, announces run for president

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who proved that stardom can fade as fast in politics as it does in Hollywood, has announced today that he will run for the 2016 Republican nomination for President.

Christie was once expected to be the frontrunner for the Republican party and was going to be its new face. But his rising unpopularity in his home state, the “Bridgegate” scandal and his delayed decision on his future have hastened his fall from grace. There was even a NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll published last week that showed that just 55 percent of Republican voters polled could see themselves supporting Christie.

However, Christie is hoping to put all that behind him as he runs for higher office.

“Both parties have failed our country,” Christie told a crowd of supporters in Livingston, New Jersey, reports The Washington Post. “Both parties have led us to believe that in America, a country built on compromise, that somehow compromise is a dirty word.”

He later said that Americans are “filled with anxiety” that could be “swept away by strong leadership and decisiveness to lead America again.”

Since Christie isn’t the frontrunner he used to be, he has to find a way to separate himself from the GOP pack, which now includes 14 candidates. The other candidates running include former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Donald Trump, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Senators Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz and former Sen. Rick Santorum.
