Petition asks Bruce Jenner give back his Olympic gold medal for 'competing against the wrong gender'

Now that Bruce Jenner is living as Caitlyn Jenner, there’s a petition circulating to strip him of his Olympic gold medal.

Using the quote Bruce told Diane Sawyer during his groundbreaking interview, “For all intents and purposes, I am a woman,” the petition argues he was “in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men's sports.”

As of Thursday morning, the petition has garnered 9,500 signatures, almost reaching their goal of 10,000.

Bruce won the gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics after competing in the decathlon. The open letter to the IOC ends with the hashtag “ #givebackthegold,” which has since been used on Twitter, with others using “#dontgivebackthegold" who disagree.

“We urge Ms. Jenner to support the transgender community by giving up the medals earned by competing against the wrong gender,” the author of the petition, Jennifer Bradford of Fort Worth, TX, wrote.

It was just this week that Caitlyn made her debut on Vanity Fair and will now live her life as the woman she always saw herself as.
