Tourist mauled to death by lion worked on ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Captain America’

The American woman who was mauled to death by a lion in South Africa has been identified as Katherine Chappell, who worked on the HBO’s hit Game of Thrones and the films Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Divergence.

CBS News reported that Chappell worked as a visual effects editor and won an Emmy for her work on the Game of Thrones series in 2014. She had actually traveled to South Africa to raise money for animal conservation for organizations against poaching.

Tragically, the 29-year-old was killed Monday when she was mauled by a white lioness in a park outside of Johannesburg.

The "lioness approached from the passenger side and bit the lady through the window," said Scott Simpson, the assistant operations manager of the open-air facility Lion Park.

Driver Pierre Potgieter, tried to help Chappell when the animal attacked her.
However, NBC News noted that he was then scratched. The bus company said that he was hospitalized and suffered a heart attack while trying to fight off the lion.

Park officials said that lioness will not be put down, but placed in a solitary area.

In a Facebook Post, Chappell’s family said that she "was very much loved and shared her love for life with those she met."
