Univision cuts ties with Miss Universe after Donald Trump calls Mexicans 'rapists'

If bringing people together is one of the job qualifications for being President, Donald Trump has already proved that it’s not something he’s good at. After insulting all of Mexico in his campaign announcement, Univision has decided that it can’t possibly support the Trump-owned Miss Universe Organization.

Univision said in a statement today that it is cutting all ties with Trump “based on his recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants.” The network will not air the July 12 Miss USA pageant or any other program linked to the Trump Organization.

“At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country,” the network stated.

In his speech last week to launch his campaign for the 2016 GOP nomination, Trump suggested that the U.S. is losing ground to Mexico and claiming that all immigrants are rapists and drug dealers. He also said that he wants a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and he will find a way to force Mexico to pay for it.

“When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you,” Trump said. “They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Even though he is supposed to be running for President, Trump took the time to call out Univision on Twitter.
