‘Fifty Shades’ star Jamie Dornan announces next project: Nazi-hunter movie ‘Anthropoid’

Jamie Dornan, who is better known around the world as Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, has been trying to take on more serious projects in his other work. That includes the film he’s about to start making in the Czech Republic, Anthropoid.

Dornan and Metro Manila director Sean Ellis, who is set to helm the World War II era movie, announced the project at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Thursday, reports Variety. They will make the movie on location in the Czech Republic.

The story centers on Czechoslovak resistance fighters who killed Nazi Reinhard Heydrich, one of the planners of the Holocaust. Cillian Murphy co-stars as another member of the team.

“These were just normal guys who were fighting for something they fiercely believed in,” Dornan said of the film, which was written by Ellis and Anthony Frewin. “A lot of that work, thankfully, is done for me on the page. All the human flaws and all the things that make him a tangible person, the everyman you can relate to are on the page, which is great. They’re heroes in the sense of what they did, but very much on the page you see that they are flawed, and have very human aspects to them that would hinder trying to carry out an exercise like this.”

As Reuters points out, the assassination of Heydrich in 1942 was a dangerous decision, as the Nazis began a wave of violent attacks in Czechoslovakia.

“People are going to look at it from both sides,” Dornan added. “Ultimately I think it sent a very strong message to show that the Czech people were up for a fight and weren't willing to be treated in that way.”

Aside from Fifty Shades, Dornan also stars on The Fall and will next be seen in another period piece, Jadotville. That movie will be released by Netflix next year.
