Ariana Grande's apology for leaked video: She doesn't hate Americans, just their eating habits

Ariana Grande is apologizing for her comments about America from the leaked video of security footage of the singer and her new boyfriend, Ricky Alvarez, in a California doughnut shop Wolfee Donuts.

In the video, Grande is seen kissing Alvarez, licking doughnuts and declaring that she “hates” Americans.

“What the f—k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America! That’s disgusting,” she said in the video obtained by TMZ. She has since pulled out of her MLB All-Star game performance, with speculation it’s because of her controversial comments.

She’s now explaining herself in a lengthy statement to Us Weekly, apologizing for “not using more discretion with my choice of words,” adding she “should have known better in how I expressed myself."

However, her frustrations lie in the way Americans eat, noting high child obesity rates are what “frustrates me.”

“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country,” she wrote. However, “As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole.”

“We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies,” adding, “We need to demand more from our food industry.”

As for the All-Star game, “I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon.”
