Christina Hendricks dropped from Showtime’s Cameron Crowe series 'Roadies'

Showtime, Cameron Crowe and J.J. Abrams are completely revamping Roadies, Crowe’s highly anticipated series that was supposed to see Christina Hendricks return to television. Although the Mad Men star filmed the pilot, her part is going to be rewritten and recast.

The surprising news was reported by Deadline Wednesday. A source told the site that it was a creative decision and the two sides parted amicably.

Still, Hendricks’ involvement was considered a major bonus for the pilot. She was one of the standout stars of Mad Men, playing Joan Harris in all seven seasons. She joined the cast in December.

Roadies is set to be a light-hearted look at a rock tour through the eyes of roadies. Luke Wilson, Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Peter Cambor and Keisha Castle-Hughes are still in the cast. Crowe, who just helmed the box office flop Aloha, will rewrite his script and is executive producing with Abrams and Winnie Holzman.

Fans of Hendricks can still see her in Comedy Central’s upcoming Another Period series. She’s also starring in SundanceTV’s Hap and Leonard, which received a straight-to-series order. On the film side, her credits include Drive, Lost River, God’s Pocket and Charlize Theron’s Dark Places. So, perhaps things might work our for her with one less thing on her plate.
