Get prepared for National Ice Cream Day with these deals!

President Ronald Reagan is remembered for many things, but some might have forgotten that he was the president who established National Ice Cream Day. The holiday is this Sunday and to mark the occasion, just about every major ice cream shop chain will be celebrating.

The holiday was established by Reagan in 1984, notes Holiday Insights. He named July National Ice Cream Month, with a special day set aside for everyone’s favorite summer treat on the third Sunday of the month.

Here’s how some chains are marking the holiday:

Friendly’s: Conveniently for Friendly’s, Saturday is the restaurant’s 80th anniversary. To celebrate, you get a free cone with every cone you get. Everyone gets a birthday present!

Carvel: Carvel will also be doing a BOGO event, but only on Sunday. They hope customers will check out a new Reese’s Peanut Butter ice cream.

Dippin’ Dots: If you love sherbet - especially fruit-flavored sherbet - Dippin’ Dots is the place to go. They will be giving out free samples of Redberry Sherbet, made with Sour Patch Kids candy.

Baskin Robbins: Baskin Robbins has been celebrating National Ice Cream Month with special Oreo products. On July 31, which is the company’s 70th birthday, they have a 31 percent discount on all sundaes.

Monkey Joe’s: Locations of the indoor play area chain will hand out free ice cream to guests on Sunday.

Time notes that some companies that aren’t exactly in the ice cream game are in on National Ice Cream Day. If you use the Lyft car service and show a receipt to local participating ice cream shops, you get free scoops.

The Wienerschnitzel chain in the Midwest and Western states will be selling Chili Dogs, Mustard Dogs and Kraut Dogs for 99 cents each Sunday. Nothing says “let’s celebrate National Ice Cream Day” like hot dogs! (Then again, they do sell cones and sundaes there.)
