New 'Back to the Future' comic series announced from original writer

2015 is a big year for Back to the Future fans. This October is finally the year that Doc and Marty travel to in Back to the Future 2, and just in time for that milestone, we're getting an all new comic series from the co-creator of the movies.

According to io9, a new Back to the Future comic series will be out this October. The comic will be written by Bob Gale, who wrote the original trilogy of films along with Neil Canton.

This will not be a sequel to the movie trilogy, instead taking place during the events of the original three movies. They'll fill in gaps and answer questions not covered in the films, with the first issue about how Doc and Marty originally met and about Doc working on the Manhattan project. Each issue will tell two separate stories.

It makes sense that this won't just be Back to the Future 4 in comic form, as director Robert Zemeckis recently said that no sequel or remake would be made as long as he and Bob Gale were still alive. That was pretty refreshing to hear, and keeping in mind that they don't want to do any proper continuation, this comic seems like a fun way to make more Back to the Future while not taking the story further or dishonoring the originals.
