New 'Daily Show' host Trevor Noah breaks silence on controversial tweets, calls himself an 'idiot'

Trevor Noah is finally breaking his silence on the backlash from the announcement he would be replacing Jon Stewart on The Daily Show because of controversial Twitter jokes dredged up from his past.

Noah will debut as the Comedy Central show’s new host on Sept. 28.

The tweets in question center mainly on derogatory remarks on Jews and women, but the network stood behind him nonetheless.

Noah now tells GQ those tweets were “stupid” and he now looks back on himself and says, “I was an idiot.”

“You show me half my jokes from even two years ago, three years ago — I hate them,” he said. “Because you see, like, a young version of yourself. You're like, Why would you say that? You idiot! That makes no sense. Or, That's just stupid. Or, Ahh, I can't believe I said that about a woman"

He added, "You should not like what you did back then, because that shows that you've grown. If you're still doing it, that's a scarier place to be.”
