Sean Malone, actor in ‘Gone Baby Gone,’ dies after drowning incident

Sean Malone, a Boston-based actor who appeared in Gone Baby Gone, died after nearly drowning earlier this month. He was 54.

The Soton Fire Department announced his death on Wednesday, confirming that he succumbed to his injuries. He died at Boston Medical Center surrounded by his family and son Sean.

The Boston Globe reported that he swam too far out while at a South Boston beach. He was rescued by off-duty firefighter Chris Flaherty, who found Malone floating unconscious, notes Us Weekly.

Flaherty found a group of teens on a powerboat and told them to take him and Malone to land quickly. He and other off-duty firefighters tried to revive him. He was hospitalized and had been in a coma since July 20.

Malone starred in Ben Affleck’s directing debut Gone Baby Gone as Skinny Ray Likanski and had a role in another Boston-based drama, David O. Russell’s The Fighter. His most recent role came in John Travolta’s The Forger, which was also filmed in Boston.
