Woman arrested for dousing Baltimore mayor at festival

A woman was arrested for allegedly dousing Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake with a liquid substance believed to be water as she greeted citizens at the Mondawmin Festival over the weekend.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Lacheisa Pailin-Sheffer was apprehended after a cup of the liquid was thrown on the mayor. The 37-year-old was taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault.

Aides and security rushed to Rawlings-Blake’s side after the liquid was poured over her head. She was not injured and when asked if she felt threatened when the water was dumped on her she said, “I didn't know what it was that she threw at me. I hope it was water. It was more shocking than anything else."

The festival the mayor was attending is an all-day event that features live music, food and representatives from city agencies as well as non-profit organizations. The affair was held close to where the riots erupted two months ago in the wake Freddie Gray’s death.

There is no indication that the liquid-throwing incident was in any way related to that unrest.
