Christina Applegate to guest star in Fox’s ‘The Grinder’ with Rob Lowe

The Grinder, which hasn’t even debuted yet, is started to attract major talent to pair with star Rob Lowe. Christina Applegate is joining the new Fox comedy.

In The Grinder, Lowe stars as Dean, a former TV lawyer whose series comes to an end. He heads back to his hometown, Boise, to run his family firm.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Applegate will make her first appearance during the show’s fifth episode. She will play Kelly Summers, who went to high school with Dean. While most of the town is excited to see Dean come back, Kelly isn’t too happy. She says that she doesn’t have a TV and never saw his show.

The Grinder has attracted other guest stars. Married’s Nat Faxon will play a member of the city's elite. According to EW, Entourage’s Emmanuelle Chriqui will also appear on The Grinder as Dean’s fictional lover on the show-within-a-show.

Despite all these guest stars, The Grinder is on shaky ground at the moment. Showrunner Greg Malins (How I Met Your Mother) has left the program and executives are looking for a new showrunner. The Grinder was created by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul.

The Grinder premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 8:30 p.m., following the debut of John Stamos’ Grandfathered. The two comedies will be the lead-in for Scream Queens.

Applegate was recently seen in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and Vacation.
