Former NFL QB Erik Kramer survives apparent suicide attempt

Erik Kramer, a former quarterback for the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears, has reportedly survived an apparent suicide attempt in Los Angeles.

Sources told NBC Chicago that Los angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call Tuesday night from a Calabasas motel. Deputies found Kramer with a non life-threatening gunshot wound.

The quarterback’s ex-wife Marshawn Kramer told NBC that he has been suffering from depression, which she thinks is linked to his time in the NFL. “I can promise you he is not the same man I married,” Marshawn told NBC.

Kramer was in the NFL from 1987-1999, playing with the Atlanta Falcons, Lions, Bears and San Diego Chargers. He reached the NFC Championship game with the Lions in 1991 and also made the playoffs in 1993. Kramer now covers the Bears for Fox.

According to Larry Brown Sports, Kramer’s son died from a heroin overdose in 2011.
