Ryan Seacrest to host late night coverage for NBC's Rio Summer Olympics

Ryan Seacrest is adding another line to his resume. Seacrest has been named the host of NBC's late night coverage during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Seacrest announced the news on Twitter and added that the show would be filmed on the beach of Copacabana. The show will be a unique style of in-depth interviews, human interest pieces and breaking news coverage from the day's event.

NBC released a statement and Jim Bell, executive producer for NBC Olympics, explained why Seacrest was the perfect fit for this role. "The late night atmosphere will be electric. And we’re thrilled to have Ryan Seacrest in the middle of it all capturing Rio’s unique flavor, talking to Olympic athletes, and telling the stories of the day," explained Bell.

Seacrest expressed his excitement for the opportunity and is looking forward to working with the NBC team. Seacrest was a correspondent during the the 2012 London Games. The London Olympics set records for viewers. The games reached a record 217 million-plus viewers.

“Joining the NBC Olympics team at the 2012 London Games was an exhilarating experience. I appreciate Jim Bell’s confidence, along with everyone at NBC Sports. I can’t wait to reunite with the team of broadcasters and producers for the 2016 Rio Olympics, and I look forward to hosting the live late night show," said Seacrest.
