Trailer Park: ‘Straight Outta Compton.' ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E’ head straight into theaters this weekend

Killers are on the loose at the box office this week. Secret agents and terrified victims are determined to fight back. Also, fighting to get out of their crime-ridden neighborhood, a group of young rappers make a splash in mainstream America.

The rise and impact of the rap group NWA is seen in Straight Outta Compton. The group became popular for bringing the issues from the hood to mainstream America. The two hour and twenty-seven minute drama shows 10 years of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Easy E’s life starting from the streets and ending in rap stardom. The musical biopic is coproduced by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre and stars Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Paul Giamatti and Ice Cube’s son O'Shea Jackson Jr. as Ice Cube.

Amidst the Cold War of the 1960’s, a CIA agent and a KGB agent become an unlikely team in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. The two set out on a mission to get inside a Nazi crime organization that is threatening the world with nuclear weapons. The PG-13 action film is based on the popular 60’s television series. The Guy Ritchie directed adventure film stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Hugh Grant. It’s playing in conventional and IMAX theaters for one hour and fifty-six minutes.

Four friends play a sadistic game of torturing and killing young blond women in Final Girl. One day the hunted becomes the huntress as one girl gets fights back. The one hour and thirty minute drama stars Wes Bentley and Abigail Breslin. The limited released film is rated R for violence and language.

A woman expecting to meet a blind date lets a stranger into her house who ends up raping her in Return to Sender. Not able to bounce back from the trauma, she starts to form a relationship with her assailant by writing letters and visiting him in jail, only to one day get her revenge. The unrated suspense thriller stars Rosamund Pike, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick Nolte, Camryn Manheim, Rumer Willis and Illeana Douglas. It’s running in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-five minutes.

New York City is the backdrop of the coming of age story Ten Thousand Saints. In the one hour and forty-four minute film, a teenager moves to the Big Apple to reconnect with his father and, in the meantime, falls for his new friends’ pregnant girlfriend. The limited released film stars Ethan Hawke, Emile Hirsch, Hailee Steinfeld, Julianne Nicholson, Emily Mortimer and Asa Butterfield. It’s rated R for drugs, language and sex.

With humanity on the verge of extinction due to a lack of oxygen, two engineers try to keep those still living, alive in Air. Working inside a controlled area, they too must fight death and hysteria while keeping mankind alive. Djimon Hounsou and The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus star in the PG-13 film. The Sci-Fi thriller is running in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-five minutes.

A man wakes up from a coma and finds himself in the house of a woman claiming to be his wife in Amnesiac. He soon discovers that she isn’t as kind and innocent as she appears to be. Kate Bosworth and Wes Bentley star in the unrated suspense thriller. The limited released film runs for one hour and twenty-four minutes.

A group of mountain climbers attempt a new peak in Meru. In 2008, a seven day trip to scale the Shark’s Fin of Mount Meru turned into a torturous twenty day nightmare leaving Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk just 100 meters from the top before they were forced to retreat. Discouraged and scarred by their failed attempt, the men are still somehow drawn to go back to complete what they tried to accomplish three years earlier. The one hour and thirty minute documentary is available in limited theaters. It’s rated R for language.

More movie characters are on the run next week with the release of the horror film Sinister 2 and the action film Agent 47. Joining those films at the box office on August 21 are the romantic comedy Some Kind of Beautiful and the comedic action film American Ultra.
