William Shatner hosting official ‘Star Trek’ cruise

William Shatner will host the first official Star Trek cruise, which is set to launch in January 2017. Unlike the Enterprise though, the cruise isn’t going where no man has gone before.

Star Trek: The Cruise is the first officially licensed cruise and will take fans on a six-day, six-night unique experience. It leaves from Miami on Jan. 9, 2017 and stops in Cozumel, Mexico and the Bahamas before returning to Miami on Jan. 15. The ship will be the Norwegian Pearl.

Organizers announced that Shatner will host the event last week. The other Trek celebrities joining the cruise include Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, James Darren, Robert Picardo, Denise Crosby and John de Lancie.

“I am excited to be the host of Star Trek: The Cruise,” Shatner said in a statement. “When I was told that this was the first authorized Star Trek cruise and part of the 50th anniversary celebration, I just knew that my participation would be something that our fans would enjoy. It should be a lot of fun.”

Next year does mark the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series’ debut. Paramount is also releasing Star Trek Beyond in July 2016.
