In an interview with Collider, director Brad Bird revealed that the Incredibles 2 script is about three-quarters finished, although that is only the first draft. Still, after years of speculation, it's great to hear that the movie is actually happening and coming along right on schedule.

Bird didn't reveal anything about the film's plot, but he did note that The Incredibles 2 will be hitting theaters at a very different time for superhero movies than the original.

"But what’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out," Bird said. "One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks. What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us."

So when can fans expect the film? Nobody knows for sure, although a 2017 or 2018 release date has been rumored. Bird didn't confirm anything, only saying that it's very hard to tell this far in advance.

"Some films are tougher to come together and tough nuts to crack, and other ones comes together a little more quickly, and so I’m just going to work as fast as I can work well with a relatively small team because I like small teams better until you’ve got everything firmly figured out," he said.

For now, fans can look forward to the next big Pixar sequel, Toy Story 4, which hits theaters in June 2017. That film will be a love story between Woody and Bo Peep, as we previously reported.
