Columbus Short to serve three years probation for assault case

Actor and former Scandal star Columbus Short will serve three years probation after pleading no contest Thursday for an assault case that occurred last year.

According to People in addition to the three years of formal probation, Short, 33, will also have to serve 60 days of community service and has been ordered to complete 26 anger management classes.

Short plead to a felony count of assault likely to cause bodily injury. He managed to avoid jail time but will have to pay the victim, Fenton Hyck III, restitution.

The actor revealed to Access Hollywood Live that substance abuse, including cocaine and alcohol, was the source of his problems.

This was not Short’s first brush in with the law as he was arrested back in 2008 for drunk driving, 2010 on suspicion of battery and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor spousal battery in 2014. Short and his wife have since separated.

The actor left the hit series Scandal after the incident. He’s set to make his return to the big screen in 2016’s Lucky Girl according to IMDB.
