Comedienne Margaret Cho opens up in new interview about bullying, sexual abuse

Funny woman Margaret Cho took a break from telling hilarious jokes and got serious during a recent interview.

The Comedienne sat down with Billboard and opened up about her childhood, which was plagued by sexual abuse, rape and bullying.

Cho said that the sexual abuse took place between the ages of 5 and 12.

"I had a very long-term relationship with this abuser, which is a horrible thing to say. I didn't even understand it was abuse, because I was too young to know," she confessed. "I endured it so many times, especially because I was alone a lot."

She also said that she was raped at the age of 14.

"I was raped continuously through my teenage years, and I didn't know how to stop it. It was also an era where young girls were being sexualized,” she recalled.

She also shared that she was raped in school and when the other children found out they told her it happened because she was “disgusting.”

Finally, when she was 27, Cho started therapy and today uses her comedy and music to help her deal with what happened in the past.

Cho's message for other woman who are going through or have gone through the same thing is that they need to know they “have the power to come forward and say ‘This happened to me.’”
