Dalai Lama remains hospitalized in Mayo Clinic

The Dalai Lama remains hospitalized in Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic after he was admitted for what was called a health check last week.

CNN noted that on Sunday spokeswoman Ginger Plumbo confirmed that the holy leader was still at the clinic following an evaluation but would not comment on how long he might be there for.

On Friday, it was announced via the Dalai Lama’s website that he would need to cancel his upcoming appearances in the U.S.

“His Holiness the Dalai Lama is in the United States for a medical check-up. The doctors have advised His Holiness to rest for the next several weeks. As a result, His Holiness’ planned October U.S. visit has been cancelled. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by this decision and apologize to all the people who have worked so hard in organizing the visit as well as to the public. We thank you for your support and understanding.”

The 80-year-old Tenzin Gyatso is the 14th Dalia Lama and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. In 1959, he fled into exile in India.
