Donald Trump mocks Carly Fiorina’s face, says he was talking about her ‘persona’

Donald Trump was forced to make an attempt at doing damage control after his Rolling Stone magazine profile went live overnight. In it, he mocked former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who is also running for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, for her looks.

In the profile, reporter Paul Solotaroff writes about watching news coverage with Trump. When Fiorina’s face showed up on the television, Trump instantly suggested that no one would vote for her because of her face.

“Look at that face!” Trump said. “Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!" He later added, “I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not s'posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”

Trump did interviews with Fox News and CNN this morning, confirming that he may have said those comments. However, he wasn’t talking about her looks.

“I'm not talking about looks. I'm talking about persona,” he said on CNN. He said nearly the same thing on Fox, adding that the comments were made “in a jocular manner, obviously.”

Fiorina was asked about the comments on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show last night and said the comments “speak for themselves.”

“Maybe just maybe I’m getting under his skin a little bit because I’m climbing in the polls,” Fiorina added.

The next GOP debate is on Sept. 16 on CNN. The network will announce the main-stage candidates later today.
