Elizabeth Banks might direct Sony’s ‘Charlie’s Angels’ reboot

Elizabeth Banks is reportedly in talks to direct a Charlie’s Angels reboot for Sony.

The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Banks would also produce the film with her husband and producing partner Max Handelman. They still need to find a writer and stars.

Charlie’s Angels was born in 1976 as a TV series starring Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith as detectives who solve mysteries for Charlie. Fawcett was later replaced by Cherly Ladd and the series ran until 1981.

The show was back in pop culture in 2000 thanks to McG’s film adaptation with Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. However, 2003’s Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle was a flop and the franchise ended. The property took another hit when ABC cancelled a 2011 reboot series after just four episodes.

Banks made her directing debut with the box office smash Pitch Perfect 2. In June, she was attached to direct a film adaptation of Red Queen for Universal. But it’s not clear when she’ll get to make that, especially if she’s also going to helm Pitch Perfect 3.
