'Game of Thrones' receives Guinness world record, Maisie Williams accepts

Game of Thrones is one of the biggest shows in the world right now, and it has just received a major Guinness world record.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Game of Thrones will be featured in the 2016 edition of the Guinness World Records for largest simultaneous broadcast of a TV drama. That's for the second episode of Season 5, which was broadcast to 173 countries and territories at the same time. This beat the previous record, an episode of CSI simulcast to 171 countries just a few weeks earlier.

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the series, accepted the award on behalf of the Game of Thrones crew.

“I'm so pleased for Game of Thrones to be a part of Guinness World Records, I'm going to tell my step brother as he gets the book every year for Christmas," Williams told Guiness. "I can't wait to see the look on his face!”

Season 5 of Game of Thrones was massively popular all over the world, and the ratings continue to impress, despite the fact that the show is pirated so much and that the first few episodes were leaked ahead of time this past year.

The 2016 edition of Guinness World Records hits store shelves on September 10th.
