Jane Birkin withdraws request for Hermes to drop her name from Birkin bag

Jane Birkin has withdrawn her request that Hermes drop her name from their popular Birkin bag, the French company announced on Friday.

Birkin had requested Hermes remove her name from the handbags back in July after hearing about claims of the mistreatment of animals at a crocodile farm in Texas.

In a statement, Hermes said the slaughtering was an “isolated irregularity” and they threatened to cut ties with the farm if they didn’t change their cruel practices.

“Jane Birkin has advised us that she is satisfied by the measures taken by Hermès,” the company said in a statement, The Guardian reports.

Birkin was alerted to the slaughter practices after PETA uncovered the brutal process behind the making of some of the bags in a video narrated by actor Joaquin Phoenix.

She said in a statement at the time, "Having been alerted to the cruel practices endured by crocodiles during their slaughter for the production of Hermès bags carrying my name, I have asked Hermès Group to rename the Birkin until better practices responding to international norms can be implemented for the production of this bag."
