After serving as the Doctor's companion for two and a half seasons, Clara Oswald will reportedly be saying farewell very soon.

According to the Mirror, Jenna Coleman is leaving Doctor Who following the end of the upcoming ninth season. The actress has reportedly already filmed her final scenes with Peter Capaldi, and she will not be appearing in this year's Christmas special.

Coleman has supposedly already landed her next television role: Queen Victoria on a new ITV series called Victoria. A source for the Mirror claims that Coleman was cast a while ago, but it's been kept secret until now.

This shouldn't be too surprising for Doctor Who fans, as Clara is now the longest running companion of the modern rebooted era. The show thrives heavily on changing things up and not keeping cast members around for too long, so having Clara stay for any more episodes would probably be too much.

It should be noted, though, if this report turned out to be only a rumor, that wouldn't be unprecedented. There was also a rumor that Coleman would be leaving the show that came out this time last year, once again from the Mirror, and that turned out to be completely false. With that in mind, this news should probably be taken with a grain of salt until the BBC or a spokesperson for Coleman confirms it.

Doctor Who Season 9 premieres on September 19.
