Jennifer Lawrence might reteam with ‘Hunger Games’ director Francis Lawrence for ‘Red Sparrow’

Jennifer Lawrence and director Francis Lawrence have been looking for ways to keep working together after wrapping up work on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and they might have found it. There’s no deals set, but she has been linked to Red Sparrow.

This news comes from Deadline, which reports that JLaw is “orbiting” the project. So, it sounds like someone has said that she’s intrigued by the project, but she hasn’t even started talks with the producers.

Francis Lawrence is much closer to getting aboard Red Sparrow. Back in July, it was reported that the director was interested in it, after both Darren Aronofsky and David Fincher moved on to other projects. Deadline says that the project will be developed with Francis Lawrence in mind, but he isn’t attached just yet.

Red Sparrow is based on Jason Matthews’ novel and is set up at Fox. It will be produced by Chernin Entertainment, Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch. The novel was adapted by Eric Warren (American Hustle) and Justin Haythe (The Lone Ranger) was picked to do a rewrite.

Should Lawrence sign on, she would probably play Dominika Egorova, a Russian intelligence officer who is assigned to track down an American CIA officer and they wind up falling for each other.

Considering how many projects Lawrence has in the works, this might be tough to fit in. Mockingjay - Part 2 opens on Nov. 20 and David O. Russell’s Joy opens on Dec. 25. Other projects she has lined up include Passengers and The Rosie Project.
