Jesse Eisenberg: 'Batman v. Superman' is not a 'cartoonish superhero movie'

While Marvel films traditionally have a more comedic tone to them, DC movies are generally much darker and more serious, and according to Jesse Eisenberg, that trend continues with the new film Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In a recent appearance on The Today Show, Eisenberg spoke briefly about his role in Dawn of Justice, hyping up the film and saying that it's not a cartoonish superhero movie.

"It's this very serious, well acted, well written, well directed movie," he continued. "It's really phenomenal."

Eisenberg also praised the writing of Chris Terrio , who he called a brilliant writer of characters. As he points out in the interview, Dawn of Justice is Terrio's next film after Argo, for which he won an Academy Award.

That's all pretty high praise for the film, but it's also interesting to hear that DC's attempt to make all of their films rather dark and serious is still in full swing. In fact, for a while there was a rumor that DC has a "no jokes" policy for their movies, although there are still bits of comedic relief in films like Man of Steel. They just seem to be approaching their cinematic universe with a more serious take, differentiating themselves from Marvel's lighter outings.

Jesse Eisenberg plays the latest version of Lux Luther in Batman v. Superman, a role for which he went fully bald. Speaking with Seth Meyers, Eisenberg joked that it felt strange to shave his head, noting, "It’s the kind of thing where you feel like I can really damage myself. You want to wear a helmet.”

Batman v. Superman hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
