"What Do You Mean?" has earned the highest first-week streaming total globally. The single has already been played 21 million times in the past five days. One Direction takes second place with their single after earning 20 million plays in a week, Contact Music reported.

Bieber performed his single during the MTV Video Music Awards and at the end became overwhelmed with emotion. He opened up about his experience during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

"It was so overwhelming for me, everything, the performance. I missed some cues so I was a little disappointed with that… and I just wasn't expecting them to support me the way they did. Last time I was at an awards show, I was booed," said Bieber.

The "As Long As You Love Me" singer has been working on his latest studio album which will be released on November 13, 2105. He opened up about the passion and emotion behind this album and how that came together in this performance. "So I was feeling judged and wanting to win so badly, and wanting to do what I love so badly, that I just put everything on the line. And I think that was what was so special about the emotional moment at the end — it was authentic, it was real, I was really wanting it so bad."
