Kevin Smith announced on Twitter today that he has found the location for his long-awaited Mallrats sequel. He will shoot the film at Exton Square Mall in Exton, Pennsylvania.
The filmmaker posted a photo of himself in front of the mall’s sign on Twitter. “We found out MALL, y’all!” he wrote, adding that filming will start in January.
PREIT, which owns the mall property, told Philly.com that they are excited about the opportunity of having the mall in the film. They even want to turn it into a marketing opportunity.
“We are thrilled at the prospect of hosting Kevin Smith, the actors, and crew, helping to bring jobs to the area, and creating social media & onsite events to celebrate the partnership,” the company said in a statement.
Smith confirmed in March that he is working on Mallrats 2, which he has titled MallBrats.
The original Mallrats was released very early in Smith’s career in 1995, as his follow-up to his low-budget debut Clerks.
