Marvel brings in more stars for ‘Luke Cage’ Netflix series

Marvel has announced the new major stars for Luke Cage, the third series the studio is producing for Netflix.

Marvel’s Luke Cage stars Mike Coulter (The Good Wife) as the title character, a hero with super strength. It was reported in August that Alfre Woodard (The Last Ship) was joining the show as a villain.

On Tuesday, Marvel confirmed that Woodard, a four-time Emmy winner, will join the show as Mariah Dillard, a Harlem politician who is hoping to change the area she grew up in. Her character is the cousin of Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, who is played by Mahershala Ali.

Marvel later announced four more stars for the show. Simone Missick (Ray Donovan) will star as Misty Knight, a Harlem police detective. Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) is playing Shades, a criminal with links to Luke Cage’s past.

Frank Whaley (Ray Donovan) will star as NYPD Detective Rafael Scarfe, who works with Misty Knight. Rosario Dawson will play Claire Temple, linking Luke Cage to Daredevil.

Luke Cage is the third of five series Marvel is producing for Netflix. Daredevil already debuted and Marvel’s Jessica Jones starts on Nov. 20. The fourth series will be Iron Fist, which will be followed by a Defenders limited series.
