At a Q&A for her movie, Our Brand Is Crisis, at the Toronto International Film Festival, she was puzzled by a reporter’s question about her character’s hair and roots, according to Refinery29. Bullock plays a political strategist who goes to Bolivia to help a candidate in a presidential election.

The reporter asked, “It was clear she [Bullock’s character, “Calamity” Jane Bodine] had money, and all the money she’d ever need. And yet her hair was clearly two colors, black and white.”

Bullock responded to the question with her strength— humor. “I love talking about hair. It’s called root grow out,” she said.

“Sometimes the roots grow out,” Bullock continued. “Sometimes they are grey and sometimes they are dark. It wasn’t white it was an ashy blonde. It was a very conscious decision to show there was a time in which she had money, you can tell by her clothes as well, that was a time she’s trying to let go.”

George Clooney, who produced the movie, has his own question for the reporter. “Aren’t you glad you asked that question?” he joked.

Bullock recently made headlines for her new relationship with photographer Bryan Randall.
