Singer announced on his official Instagram account that his next movie will be an adaptation of the classic Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. He posted an image of the film's script, which was written by Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney. Singer also has a "story by" credit on the screenplay.

The director referred to 20,000 Leagues as "a story I've wanted to retell since childhood," and he promised his version would be "an epic and emotional adventure for all ages." Singer went on to assure fans he isn't finished with the X-Men universe just yet, though, hinting at a future involvement in the franchise after X-Men: Apocalypse.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has been adapted on screen a few times going back to 1916. The most famous version was released in 1954 starring Kirk Douglas, although there hasn't really been another major retelling of the classic novel since then.

For now, Singer is finishing up work on X-Men: Apocalypse, the third movie in the X-Men prequel series and the seventh X-Men film overall. It will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence, alongside newcomers to the franchise Oscar Isaac, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Sophie Turner.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016. For more, check out the official images released from the set of the film.
