Retired veteran NBA super star Allen Iverson is heavily interested in playing in the NBA once again. He recently had the chance to play in the NBA Development league for the Texas Legends, but he declined.
Iverson had a fantastic career in the beginning, but later on he destroyed himself. He refused to come off the bench when he wasn’t playing too well and growing in age. He would at times not show up to practice, saying games are what’s important and was just a hard head to deal with in the locker room. The last time he played in the NBA was in 2009-10, so this would’ve been his best shot.
According to ESPN Dallas, Iverson tweeted about turning down the offer to the Legends, “I thank Donnie and Dallas for the consideration and while I think the D-League is a great opportunity, it is not the route for me.”
He also added, “I realize my actions contributed to my early departure from the NBA, should God provide me another opportunity I will give it my all. … My dream has always been to complete my legacy in the NBA.To my fans, I love yall! Not a day goes by that I am not asked when am I coming back, we all must accept that my return is not up to just me.”
At the age of 37, no one knows his condition or current shooting ability. Working his way up from the D-league would’ve been his best option. The D-league however, would taint his career since he’s had such a great early career. Iverson only wants to play for the NBA, so nothing else will be enough.
According to USA Today, Iverson’s agent released a statement saying, “Allen realizes full well why he’s not in the NBA right now. … He’d be naïve to realize why he’s not in the league right now. He is determined to get his mind and his body right and continue to work. Allen appreciates everything that the NBA has given him and his years in the NBA. He appreciates his fans.”
If Iverson keeps working hard, he might be able to practice for a team, but its highly unlikely seeing as he rejected the chance to go to the D-league and train for a chance for the NBA once again.
