Drew Barrymore reveals battle with postpartum depression after second daughter

More and more Hollywood actresses are speaking out about their struggles with postpartum depression after having kids, and now Drew Barrymore is opening up about her own struggle after having her daughter Frankie.

Barrymore is a mother of two, sharing two daughters with her husband Will Kopelman; Olive, 3, and Frankie, 18 months.

In a new interview with People, she shared she didn’t experience postpartum after giving birth to Olive, but she did with Frankie.

“I didn’t have postpartum the first time so I didn’t understand it because I was like, ‘I feel great!’” she said. “The second time, I was like, ‘Oh, whoa, I see what people talk about now. I understand.' It’s a different type of overwhelming with the second. I really got under the cloud.”

Barrymore went on to say that she’s grateful for the experience because it taught her to be present in her daughters’ lives. She also said it was “short-lived,” lasting “probably six months.”

Earlier this month, Nashville star Hayden Panettiere checked into a treatment center for postpartum depression.
