Former NWA manager Jerry Heller suing over 'Straight Outta Compton' portrayal

Jerry Heller, the former manager for the rap group N.W.A, has filed a defamation lawsuit over the hit film Straight Outta Compton.

Heller is suing Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, the Eazy-E estate and Universal, along with other parties involved in the film, and is seeking $110 million in damages, according to Rolling Stone. Heller feels he was portrayed negatively and alleges he never gave permission to the filmmakers to use his name and likeness in the biopic, TMZ, which first reported on the lawsuit, notes.

"The film is littered with false statements that harm the reputation of (Heller) and aim to ridicule and lower him in the opinion of the community and to deter third persons from associating or dealing with him," the lawsuit states, reports USA Today.

Heller argued that he is portrayed as a villain who helped cause the breakup of the pioneer rap group and claims his reputation has been tarnished.

Heller was played by Paul Giamatti in Straight Outta Compton, which showcased N.W.A's rise to hip hop stardom and the later breakup of the group.

Reps for Ice Cube, Universal and Dr. Dre have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
