'NCIS' recap- 'Lockdown'

Last night’s NCIS opened with a woman texting and driving. As she is not paying attention, she hits the bumper of another car and when she goes to give her apologies, a man wearing a hat runs out without a word. Then she hears noises coming from the trunk and goes to investigate. She finds a man bound in the car.

Back at NCIS, Abby is putting a “Greatest Boss In The World” banner on Gibbs’ desk. She is trying to convince him to talk to the accountants about taking their office. She is tired of being downstairs in the lab by herself, but HR had already said no to the request and she was hoping Gibbs could sway the accountants. Tim, Ellie, and Tony are not sure he will go for it and they each describe their boss in different words, unaware as he appears behind them. Abby asks him for the favor, but he won’t do it. The phone saves him when Tony gets the call about the latest victim.

The man found in the trunk of the car is identified as Navy Reserve Captain Jeremy Doblin. Their witness didn’t get a good description of the man who ran out of the car. She’s more upset that they took her phone away as evidence. They hear a phone ring and it turns out to be a call for Ellie from Jake, so Gibbs lets her take it. When Jimmy’s phone rings, Ducky warns him not to answer.

Ellie talks to Jake, only to find out he has to be away again. Tim overhears her on the phone and she remarks she was having a “private” conversation. He apologizes and Ellie admits it’s hard not having Jake home as often.

Ducky is examining the victim, who he believes may have a crushed trachea and was stabbed. Jimmy is trying to determine time of death when he discovers something bulging from inside the deceased. He uses a magnet to see that something metallic is inside his body.

The team goes back to the bullpen to discuss the case. Doblin was a biochemist but had recently had shady real estate deals and had some rage issues. Tony brings up Doblin’s ex-wives, almost comparing the situation to Gibbs. After sending the team to different areas to work, Gibbs sits and sees the banner from Abby reads “Not the Greatest Boss In The World.”

Abby goes down to talk to Ducky and Palmer. She found a compound in Doblin’s bloodstream that she doesn’t recognize, but that one ingredient is familiar to a place known as Celodyne Pharmaceuticals. Ducky asks if he wants her to call them, but Abby wants to take a field trip to get out of the lab. When Gibbs comes in, Abby asks him to sign a permission slip. He finally relents and says he will talk to the accountants.

Ducky tells Gibbs their victim died of a crushed trachea and he found a container inside the victim’s body, meaning he was smuggling something. Jimmy pulls out the item to find it is botulinam, a dangerous toxin to have.

Abby goes to Celodyne Pharmaceuticals, where the receptionist and janitor compliment her on her parasol. Doctor Janice Brown greets Abby and takes her to her lab. She is playing loud classical music and she and Abby bond over shared interests and Caf-Pow.

While Tim processes the car, Ellie tells Gibbs that Doblin’s CO said more of the toxin was missing. Tim shows the team alcohol bottles he found in the car and then they hear a phone ring. He pulls a phone out of the car and puts it down so Gibbs can answer. Someone is on the phone about a meet and they tell the person they think they are communicating with that “Doug” sent them. Tim is able to trace the call to an address and Gibbs tells her to look into it while they get ready for the meet.

Janice tells Abby the compound in her victim is from a drug that has a missing active ingredient, so it wouldn’t have worked for the issues Doblin was having with his personality. They aren’t sure how he would have gotten it. Just then, they hear that a lockdown is taking place in the Ebola center. As Janice tells Abby the entire lab is sealed, they hear gunshots outside the door.

Abby tries to get a hold of NCIS, but the phones are down and so is the computer. She tries to hack into the database and sees the Ebola lockdown was a fake. When she takes a look at internal security cameras, she sees the janitor fighting with a guard.

Ellie tells the team about who owns the house they are going to as they sit in the van getting ready for the meet. Gibbs is going to play the part and Ellie gives him a car alarm so he can use it if he needs help. He goes up to the door and goes inside when a man answers. The man wishes him luck and opens it to reveal a bunch of women with obvious plastic surgery done. As they call Gibbs “Doctor Botox,” he begins furiously pressing the car alarm button.

Abby is figuring out solutions for what to do about calling Gibbs. She wants to get to the main server room to get inside the computer, but Janice wants to just hide. However, Abby has worked long enough to know that the hoping and hiding is not the best thing to do.

Meanwhile, Tim and Tony interview the women, who critique them on their appearance. Tim is told he could be more handsome and Tony is appalled when someone thinks he has had his own face done. He is flabbergasted when he is compared to Marty Feldman. Gibbs comes in and the two escape to tell him that they believe Doblin had been using the toxin he had to create Botox. He had told one of his clients that he owed 5 grand to a man named Nicky Cook and that he needed a loan. Gibbs looks at Tony and remarks incredulously, “Marty Feldman?”

Gibbs goes back to Ellie, who tells him that the people who were involved in Doblin’s rage issues had alibis and that when she looked at phone calls he made recently, a lot went to Celodyne Pharmaceuticals. Gibbs recognizes it as the place Abby went.

Abby is humming to herself as she silently makes her way to the server room. She gets inside just as she hears voices. After getting in, she hides in a storage closet as she sees janitors talking about getting into the system.

Abby is trying to make a plan to contact Gibbs, but then figures out a plan to get the men out of the room. She makes a concoction that smells so bad they run out of the room. She takes the opportunity to call Gibbs, who is entering the elevator with the team. Abby tells them about the robbery before hanging up and locking the system. Another man comes in with the janitors and he has a sign in sheet in his hand with Abby’s name. He tells them she is with NCIS and they need to find her and kill her.

Ellie, Tony, and Gibbs arrive at the Pharmaceuticals, where the CEO is trying to deal with media. She is not aware of the situation and is wondering why they are there. Ellie uses the radio to get the frequency the robbers are using. She is able to find the correct one and Tony speaks to them, asking what they want. They know one of the robbers is Travis Cook, a janitor who had just been hired. Ellie gets a call from Tim that they picked up Nicky Cook so they go back to MTAC.

Abby listens in on the robbers and hears them say no witnesses will be left. She tries to telecommunicate with Gibbs to give him this information, but nothing happens. Then she notices the air vents and gets a bad idea.

Nicky is in interrogation with Tim and Gibbs, and he denies killing Doblin, especially since he wouldn’t have gotten back the money Doblin owed him. He does tell them that Doblin had once said a lot of lives were at stake.

Abby makes her way back to Janice and the lab. She tells her about the hostages and what would happen, leaving Janice surprised. She needs to find a way to talk to Gibbs, but doesn’t know how. Then she looks at some more air vents at the top of the lab.

Ellie is in MTAC where she sees smoke coming from the lab Abby was visiting. Tim goes to take a closer look and one of their co-workers notices that when they see the smoke is orange, it means someone is asking for help and needs assistance. Abby was able to use Caf-Pow to make the smoke. Just then, the robbers come over the intercom asking Abby to turn system back on or they will kill hostages. When Janice worries about what to do, Abby reminds her they have their brains and the lab.

The team is at the building trying to open doors to get inside. Tim tries to hack into the database for the server, but he recognizes Abby’s code for the firewall and knows it will take time to take it off lockdown.

The girls are making a bomb in preparation of stopping the bombers. Knowing that they could be killing the bad guys, Abby is nervous. She remembers a teacher telling her class in elementary school not to applaud murder.

Gibbs is getting impatient as Tim continues working on the computer. Tim has to get through Abby’s bypass and he tells Gibbs not to shoot the computer.

The gunmen go down the hall where they see the parasol. When one person picks it up, the bomb lights up but then goes out. They follow the detonator line to find the girls hiding in a storage closet.

Tim finally is able to get past the lockdown and they go inside the doors. In the server room, Abby is told to turn on the system so the robbers can get what they came for. Abby sits down and acts like she will do it, but she knows they are unwilling to let the hostages go since she heard them say to kill witnesses. She pulls out what she calls DX7 gas, which will kill in seconds. When they don’t budge, she sprays it and they all pass out.

Outside, Tim and Gibbs arrive and incapacitate a man keeping watch before Tim gets the hostages out of the way. Gibbs opens the door so they can go inside. Abby eventually wakes up and asks what kept them. Tim responds “Your firewall” as he handcuffs one of the robbers. She tells Janice that DX7 gas isn’t real and she merely made an airborne incapacitating agent. Gibbs mentions she doesn’t seem distressed and Abby says she was stalling for time. After introducing Janice, she tells Gibbs to arrest her since she is with the robbers.

In the interrogation room, Ellie talks to Janice, who reveals that Celodyne Pharmaceuticals was falsifying safety data on their drugs and that she and Cook had come up with the plan to rob that data in order to find proof of their wrongdoings. As she is explaining this to Abby, the CEO for Celodyne asks Abby how she knew Janice was a part of it. She explains that she traced the Ebola lockdown to Janice’s computer and that Cook had pronounced her last name perfectly, which would have been difficult to do if he only read it and hadn’t heard it out loud.

Janice tells Ellie that Doblin found out what was going on and likely clued in since he was a biochemist. Cook apparently killed him when he began to get wind and things were sped up since Abby had arrived at the lab. Janice hadn’t wanted anyone to get killed in the end.

After they take the CEO into custody, Tony makes a call to the FDA. Later, Gibbs goes down to see Abby in her lab. The FBI arrested the CEO and Ducky said he got Doblin’s records expunged, since due to the drug he was taking, it messed with his system so he had become a victim as well. Abby wants to speak up for Janice since she had tried to save her co-workers in the end. She gives Gibbs a letter to give to the DA. Abby tells Gibbs she came close to violating her principles about murder and wonders what she would have done if she had to defend herself. Gibbs assures her she would have done what she needed to do. When he tells her the accountants agreed to give her the offices, she tells Gibbs she changed her mind. Abby had enough of the upstairs world for quite some time.
