New York Rangers waive Tanner Glass

The New York Rangers placed winger Tanner Glass on waivers on Tuesday.

The move was made to relieve salary cap pressure. Glass can be claimed by any team in the league and has a $1.45 million salary-cap hit. If he isn’t claimed by noon on Wednesday, then the Rangers will send him to AHL Hartford and get rid of $950,000 of his salary-cap hit, according to the New York Post. The Rangers would have $1.1 million in cap space to work with instead of $200,000 if Glass is sent to AHL Hartford.

Glass is in the second year of a three-year, $4.35 million contract he signed before last season. However, he has struggled and had to deal with injuries. He has played in just two games this season. Last year he had one goal, six points, and 98 penalty minutes in the regular season and one assist in the playoffs, according to the New York Daily News.

Jesper Fast, who replaced Glass when he was injured on October 15, will most likely fill Glass’s spot on the roster.
