Recent reports suggested that Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has sought hospital treatment for severe migraines.

A report published by conservative website The Daily Caller about Bachmann’s migraine issues has been slammed by both the right and the left

The site obtained quotes from anonymous sources who alleged that she frequently relied on prescription medication to treat her migraines. Their article also reportedly suggested that Bachmann should be disqualified from pursuing the office of the presidency.

CBS News reports that Tea Party members responded to The Daily Caller’s story by claiming they were targeting Bachmann and trying to adversely affect her campaign.

Those on the left called the website’s report sexist for using a tone that implied she lacked the physically ability to lead the country as a woman.

Bachmann addressed the controversy by releasing a statement on Tuesday and refusing to answer additional questions from reporters about her migraines during a campaign stop in Iowa.

“I’d like to be abundantly clear: My ability to function effectively will not affect, will not affect my ability to serve as commander in chief,” she said. “I keep a very rigorous schedule. I feel great. So we’ve answered that.”
